My story is proof that it is never too late to reinvent yourself.

After building a successful career spanning more than two decades in sales, leadership, and client development, I made the decision to return to college as a non-traditional student. What began as a personal goal quickly became a transformational journey. Since then, I have earned an associate degree, graduated with high honors from the University of Houston Honors College, completed my MBA from Louisiana State University, and am currently pursuing a master’s degree in strategic and digital communication at the University of Tennessee, while preparing for doctoral studies.

Professionally, I have spent my career helping organizations grow, improving performance, developing talent, and building meaningful client relationships across telecommunications, retail, healthcare financing, and financial services. While I am proud of the results I’ve achieved, the accomplishments I value most are the people I’ve helped along the way. Leadership, to me, has never been about titles. It is about creating opportunities, mentoring others, and helping people realize their potential.
That passion ultimately led me to launch Dixon Consulting, a firm dedicated to helping small businesses improve operational efficiency, strengthen communication, increase profitability, and build sustainable growth strategies. While many consulting firms focus solely on processes and profits, I believe business success starts with people. My approach combines strategy with empathy, data with authenticity, and results with relationships.

I am especially passionate about supporting small businesses, entrepreneurs, and women- and minority-owned organizations. These businesses are often the backbone of their communities, yet they frequently lack access to the resources and strategic support available to larger companies. I believe every business deserves the opportunity to thrive, and I am committed to helping business owners work smarter, lead confidently, and create lasting impact.

What sets me apart is that I lead with authenticity, integrity, and service. I believe trust is earned through action, relationships matter more than transactions, and success should never come at the expense of your values. Whether I am leading a team, mentoring a colleague, volunteering in my community, or working with a consulting client, my goal is always the same: to leave people better than I found them.

My journey has not been a straight path. Like many women, I have faced personal loss, professional setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. Those experiences taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of embracing new beginnings. They also reinforced my belief that growth is possible at every stage of life.

Today, I am a business leader, entrepreneur, lifelong learner, volunteer, and aspiring professor. Most importantly, I am someone who believes that our greatest legacy is not what we accomplish ourselves, but how many people we help succeed along the way.

My journey has been anything but traditional, and that is what makes it meaningful.

I began my career more than twenty years ago in customer-facing roles, learning firsthand the value of hard work, relationship-building, and exceptional service. Early in my career, I discovered that while I enjoyed sales and business development, what truly energized me was helping people solve problems, achieve goals, and realize their potential. That realization became the foundation of my leadership philosophy and has guided every step of my career since.

Over the years, I have worked across multiple industries, including telecommunications, retail, healthcare financing, and financial services. Each role taught me something new about leadership, business strategy, operational excellence, and the importance of putting people first. I had the opportunity to lead teams, drive business growth, improve processes, and build strong client partnerships, but my path was not without challenges.

One of the most transformative decisions I ever made was returning to college as an adult learner. Balancing work, family, and education was not always easy, but I knew I wanted to continue growing both personally and professionally. That decision led me to earn multiple degrees, graduate with honors, complete an MBA, and continue pursuing advanced studies today. More importantly, it taught me that growth has no expiration date and that it is never too late to pursue a dream.

Along the way, I also experienced personal loss and moments that forced me to reevaluate what truly mattered. Those experiences strengthened my resilience, deepened my empathy, and reinforced my commitment to living with purpose. They taught me that success is not just about what we accomplish, but how we use our experiences to help others navigate their own journeys.

Today, I serve in a leadership role within the financial services industry while building Dixon Consulting, a firm born from my desire to help businesses work smarter, grow strategically, and create lasting impact. I am especially passionate about helping small businesses, entrepreneurs, and women- and minority-owned organizations gain access to the tools, strategies, and confidence needed to thrive.

As I look back, every challenge, setback, achievement, and opportunity has contributed to the person I am today. My journey has been one of continuous learning, perseverance, service, and reinvention. While I am proud of what I have accomplished, I believe the most exciting part of my story is still being written.

While I am grateful for the awards and recognition I have received throughout my career, the accomplishments I am most proud of are the ones that represent growth, perseverance, and the ability to positively impact others.

One of my proudest achievements was returning to college as a non-traditional student while working full-time and balancing family responsibilities. That decision ultimately led to earning my Associate Degree, graduating with High Honors from the University of Houston Honors College, completing my MBA from Louisiana State University, and pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic and Digital Communication at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. As someone who believes in lifelong learning, these milestones represent far more than academic credentials—they represent perseverance, discipline, and the belief that growth has no expiration date.
Professionally, I have been fortunate to receive numerous performance recognitions throughout my career, including earning a place in Synchrony’s 2026 President’s Club, one of the company’s highest distinctions for sales and business performance. I was also honored to receive the JCPenney Great Place to Work 4E Award for leadership and partnership, along with recognition for consistently exceeding growth, sales, and client engagement goals.

Beyond individual recognition, I am especially proud of the ideas and initiatives I have championed that have improved operational efficiency, simplified reporting, enhanced decision-making, and created better experiences for both teams and clients. Seeing concepts evolve from an idea into business solutions that drive measurable results has been incredibly rewarding and reinforces my passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
I was also recently selected to participate in an AI-focused practicum initiative through the University of Tennessee, partnering with business leaders to explore how artificial intelligence can improve communication, engagement, and business performance. This opportunity reflects my passion for innovation, emerging technologies, and helping organizations prepare for the future of work.

Another milestone that holds special meaning is the launch of Dixon Consulting. Building a business rooted in integrity, service, operational excellence, and a commitment to helping others succeed represents the culmination of years of leadership experience and a desire to create impact beyond my corporate career. I am especially passionate about supporting small businesses, entrepreneurs, and women- and minority-owned organizations by helping them strengthen operations, increase profitability, and build sustainable growth strategies.

Finally, I am proud of the leadership and service opportunities that have allowed me to give back through mentoring, employee resource groups, professional organizations, volunteer work, and community involvement. These experiences have reinforced my belief that true success is measured not only by what we achieve ourselves, but by how many others we inspire, support, and help succeed along the way.

As I reflect on my journey, I view every accomplishment as a stepping stone rather than a destination. The recognition is appreciated, but the opportunity to continue learning, serving, and making a difference remains my greatest achievement.

To me, being Dauntless means having the courage to keep moving forward even when the path is uncertain. It does not mean being fearless. It means acknowledging the fear, the disappointment, or the challenge and choosing not to let it determine what comes next.

I have learned that courage often looks much quieter than we expect. Sometimes it is starting over. Sometimes it is returning to school later in life, pursuing a new opportunity after hearing “no,” launching a business, speaking up when something does not feel right, or simply trusting yourself enough to take the next step.

I practice being Dauntless by trying to live and lead authentically. I believe in being honest about who I am, remaining grounded in my values, and treating people with compassion and respect. I have experienced enough of life to know that challenges are inevitable, but they can also teach us resilience, empathy, and perspective.

For me, being Dauntless is not about proving that I can do everything alone. It is having the courage to grow, ask for help, embrace change, and continue becoming the woman I am meant to be. It is choosing purpose over fear and remembering that even when life requires us to reinvent ourselves, we never have to lose who we are in the process.

If You Could Change One Thing About the World, What Would It Be?

If I could change one thing about the world, I would improve the way we communicate with one another.

So many of the divisions we experience—within families, workplaces, communities, countries, and even across the world—are made worse when people stop listening to understand and begin listening only to respond. We may never agree on everything, nor should we, but disagreement does not have to lead to disrespect, distrust, or division.

I would love to see a world where communication is rooted in honesty, transparency, compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to understand perspectives different from our own. That means creating space for difficult conversations, asking questions before making assumptions, and recognizing the humanity in people whose experiences or beliefs may differ from ours.

Communication alone will not solve every problem, but I believe it is where meaningful change begins. When people feel heard, they are more willing to listen. When there is transparency, trust has an opportunity to grow. And when we approach one another with empathy, differences can become opportunities for understanding rather than reasons to separate us.

If we could learn to communicate with more openness and compassion—not just in the United States, but globally—I believe we could resolve more conflict, build stronger relationships, and create communities where people feel seen, respected, and valued. We do not have to think alike to learn how to live, work, and move forward together.

Outside of my professional life, I am a proud mother of two adult children, a devoted dog mom, lifelong learner, traveler, and advocate for personal growth. Family remains at the center of everything I do, and many of my decisions—both personally and professionally—have been guided by a desire to create opportunities and leave a meaningful legacy for future generations.

One of my greatest passions is travel. Several years ago, I made a commitment to myself to explore at least two new countries each year. What began as a personal goal evolved into a powerful reminder that growth often happens outside of our comfort zones. Through travel, I have experienced different cultures, perspectives, and ways of life that have broadened my worldview and strengthened my appreciation for diversity, connection, and lifelong curiosity.

I am also deeply committed to education and continuous learning. Whether pursuing advanced degrees, studying emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, writing leadership articles, mentoring others, or building my consulting business, I believe there is always something new to learn and someone we can help along the way.

When I am not working, studying, or planning my next adventure, you can often find me volunteering in my community, supporting professional development initiatives, spending time with family and friends, cheering on my favorite sports teams, or enjoying a quiet evening at home.

Above all, I hope to be remembered not simply for what I achieved, but for the lives I impacted, the people I encouraged, and the example I set for others to pursue their dreams regardless of where they begin.

Principles to Live By

Who are your heroes? Any mentors, past or present? What did you learn from your heroes or mentors?

My greatest hero has always been my mother.

As a single mother, she faced challenges that many people never saw, yet she met them with unwavering strength, determination, and grace. She taught me that circumstances do not define your future—your response to them does. Long before I understood the concepts of leadership or resilience, I was learning those lessons by watching her navigate life’s challenges while continuing to provide, support, and care for our family.
She is where I learned grit. She taught me to keep moving forward when things get difficult, to work hard for the things I want, and to never allow setbacks to become excuses. Many of the accomplishments I am proud of today—from returning to college as an adult learner to building a successful career and launching my own business—are rooted in the perseverance she modeled for me every day.

She is also where I developed my servant heart. My mother always believed in helping others, showing kindness, and giving what she could, even when she had very little herself. Watching her put others first taught me that true leadership is not about titles or recognition; it is about service, compassion, and making a positive impact on the people around you.

Throughout my career, I have also been fortunate to have mentors who challenged me to think bigger, embrace lifelong learning, and pursue opportunities outside my comfort zone. They reinforced what my mother taught me years ago: success is not something we achieve alone. It is built through relationships, encouragement, and the willingness to help others along the way.

The greatest lesson I have learned from my heroes and mentors is that success means very little if it is not used to lift others. That belief continues to guide how I lead, how I serve, and how I hope to be remembered.
